Manitowoc - Ronald R. Opichka, age 78, of 1601 South 16th Street, Manitowoc, passed away unexpectedly Monday afternoon, December 25, 2017 at Holy Family Memorial Center, Manitowoc.

Ron was born on August 8, 1939 in Town of Cooperstown, son of the late Victor and Martha (Lemberger) Opichka. He attended local area schools and graduated from Reedsville High School with the class of 1957. He served in the United States Army from 1957 until 1960 with the 508th Army Security Agency group in Korea reaching the rank of SP4. On September 1, 1962 Ron married the former Dorothy A. Schleis at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Manitowoc. Ron worked for Lab Corp Plastics as a Molding Supervisor for 40 years until his retirement in 1999. Ron enjoyed traveling, camping, hunting, fishing and his family especially his grandchildren. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish.

Survivors include his wife; Dorothy Opichka, Manitowoc; his four children: Gary (Lynn) Opichka, Manitowoc; Diane (John) Dawidowich, Manitowoc; Wendy (Todd) Jaeger, De Pere; Keith (Theresa) Opichka, Manitowoc; nine grandchildren: Drew; Kate; Mikayla; Zackary; Emily; Samuel; Owen; Lucas; Ethan; one sister and brother-in-law: Jeanette (Alvin) Leick, Manitowoc; one brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Jim (Judy) Schleis, Bothell, WA, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents: Victor and Martha Opichka; his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Wencil and Alice Schleis; one brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Donald and Marilyn Schleis.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at St. Francis of Assisi on Grand, 1416 Grand Avenue, Manitowoc. The Rev. David Pleier will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by Otto-Oas VFW Post #659 of Manitowoc. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass at 11:00 a.m. The Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home of Manitowoc is assisting the family with arrangements.
