Lois M. Brewer July 28, 1933 January 21, 2018 Lois M. Brewer, 84, of State College, died Sunday, January 21, 2018, at home. Born July 28, 1933, in Portage, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Agnes Marie Helsel Stombaugh. On October 14, 1952, Lois married John Frank Brewer. In addition to her husband of sixty-five years, Lois is survived by four children, Connie M. Smith and husband, Terry, of Clearfield, Mark E. Brewer and wife, Deb, of State College, Joel Brewer of Charlotte, N.C., and Scott Brewer of Bellefonte; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ray Stombaugh and wife, Lou, of Martindale, and Melvin Stombaugh and wife, Evelyn, of Oregon; and four sisters, Shirley Helsel and husband, Zane, of Blue Knob, Marlene Cavender and husband, Jack, of Georgia, Margie Harper and husband, Jim, of Georgia, and Janet Dorsch and husband, Bob, of Lilly. She was preceded in death by her parents and five siblings. Lois graduated from Portage High School in 1951. She was a wonderful wife and mother. Throughout her life she attended Alliance churches, and she faithfully watched Christian programs on television. She enjoyed decorating cakes and was famous for making birthday cakes for her family. She was a great cook and was known for her delicious potato salad. She loved games and was frequently the winner. Every Labor Day Lois and her family enjoyed the yearly tradition of camping together. A funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 24, 2018, at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College, with Rev. Drew Fenstermacher officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 10-11 a.m., at the funeral home. Burial will be in South Fork. Memorial contributions may be directed to the State College Alliance Church missions fund, 1221 W. Whitehall Rd., State College, PA 16801, in memory of Lois M. Brewer. Arrangements are under the care of Koch Funeral Home, State College.
