"Auntie" Jewel Grainger was one of my Mom's (Rosemary M. Anderson's) best friends. From the late 1930's until the early 1940's she and her husband, George(Debby) Grainger lived in a little house on Park Blvd between Meade and Monroe Avenues in San Diego Calif.
They later moved to a larger house on Van Dyke Ave( North of University Ave) in East San Diego where they raised two sons George Jr, and Gene (Eugene)who was 12 years old when I was born in 1940.
George Jr later married Lorna a Canadian lady with whom he had two daughters, Dianne a cute redhead, and Cheryl who became a gifted singer.
Auntie Jewell was born in North Bay, Ontario Canada in 1901 She emigrated to the US in the very early 1920's I believe.
She Married Uncle George who was born in England in 1896. They had two sons. George Jr was born in June of 1924, and Eugene," Gene" was born in Sept 1928
Jewell was a nice lady who always had a bit of mystery about her. She loved that. She played the paino and sang She loved to dress up and go places.
She loved all things English and indeed her youngest son Gene married a girl from England named Daphne. They lived in San Diego for several years in the 1950's before she divorced Gene and moved back to England.
Sadly Gene died in 1980 from Heart related disease. His brother George Jr died a year later in 1981 Auntie Jewel was about 70 when she died in 1971.
I would like to locate her grand daughter Dianne who now would be in her late 50's. Cheryl is a few years younger Their monther Lorna remarried.
Their Dad George Jr had many problems and was living in North Park years ago. He rode a bike around the area George Jr died in 1981.
I loved Auntie Jewel and Uncle George. I know this isn't a very good Bio but I really didn't remember too much about her except from my childhood/teen memories.Rosemary Anderson Amb
Update 6/07 I would like to thank Missylove for providing me with some updated information on the Graingers It piqued my interest to dig further and DH provided me with some of his Genelogy links Thanks Honey
