Nat Cox, 83, Dies, Lived here for 27 Years, Nathaniel Cox, for 27 years a resident of this rural community, died at the home of his son, Elmer, on Oct. 3, at the age of 83 years, 11 months and 25 days. Nathaniel the son of William and Sarah Cox was born Oct. 8, 1862 at Tipton, Iowa. He spent most of his boyhood and young manhood on a farm north of Jefferson, Iowa. At the age of 21 he was married to Polly Emma Wilson, of Stanhope, Iowa. To this union were born nine children, one of which died in infancy. The family spent their married life in Iowa, Colorado, Minnesota and the last 27 years spent in the vicinity of Balsam Lake and Centuria. His health failed and he and his wife retired and have spent the last eleven years at the home of his son. Last winter they celebrated their sixty second wedding anniversary.

On Dec. 1, 1945, Mr. Cox had a fall from which he never recovered. He leaves to mourn, his wife Emma; eight children, Mrs. C. T. Flack (Kate) of Thomson IL., Frank of Balsam Lake, Hillbourn of Iowa Falls Iowa, Mrs. A. J. Vought (Gladys) of Farnhamville, Iowa; Mrs. W. E. Burgin (Gwendale) of Weber City Iowa, Ellsworth of Centuria; Paul of Thomson IL. and Elmer of Centuria; 35 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren; One sister Mrs. Ned Perry, of Rio Linda Calif. and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the Park Funeral Home in Centuria on Monday, Oct.7, 1946, at 2 pm, with Rev. H. A. Fintal officiating. Interment was made at the Balsam Lake Cemetery. Pallbearers were all grandsons, J. C. Park was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Wm. Rovey, Mrs. Ralph Crerar, Mrs. Elmer Johnson, and Mrs. John Parks, sang "In the Garden" "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Nearer My God to Thee" They were accompanied by Mrs. John Kjar at the piano. All of the children were present at the service.
