Margaret A. Keller, 87, of Sandusky, passed away Saturday evening, April 21, 2018 at Firelands Regional Medical Center.
Margaret was born on April 21, 1931 in Sandusky, Ohio to the late Ralph and Loretta (Fisher) Smith.
Margaret graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1949 and was a life-time member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She was very involved in the church serving as a Eucharistic Minister, on the funeral luncheon committee and as a former member on the parish council. Margaret was also a former member of the SMCC Education Foundation, Elementary School Board and a Girl Scout Leader. Continuing her community involvement, Margaret was active at Providence Hospital as member of the Board of Trustees, past Chairman of Planning Committee, past Chairman of Professional Affairs Committee, and past Chairman of the Women's Center. Furthermore, she was 32 year member of the volunteer association acting in roles such as, Vice Chairman, Charity Ball Chairman and Chairman of Ohio Volunteer Association. For her work and community service, she was awarded as the Providence Hospital Woman of Excellence in 1995.
Mrs. Keller was well know for baking Easter kuchens (coffee cakes) using her Grandmother's recipe and sharing them with relatives and friends.
Margaret is survived by 3 sons, Dr. Richard (Michaele) Keller, JMichaele Keller, and William (Lisa) Keller; daughter, Amelia (Keith) Shepard; daughter-in-law, Cynthia Keller; 12 grandchildren, Jeremy Keller, Richard (Lindsey) Keller, Ryan (LeAnn) Keller, Ted Shepard, Matthew Keller, Andrew Shepard, Joshua Keller, Nicholas Shepard, Ashley (Paul) Brandich, Kathryn (Chris) Bravard, Jessica Keller, and Dylan Keller; 7 great-grandchildren; sister, Rosemary Smith; 2 foster grandsons, David (Georgia) Wright and Daniel (Pamela) Wright and 5 foster great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Margaret is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Richard D. Keller, whom she married on November 27, 1954; infant son, John Keller; brother, Ralph J. Smith, Jr.; and a foster son, Elton (Al) Wright.
Friends and family may call on Friday, April 27, 2018 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Avenue, Sandusky, OH 44870. An additional visitation will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at 9 a.m. until the time of Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Avenue, Sandusky, OH 44870. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Father Phil Feltman will be presiding over the services.
Margaret's family wishes to express their gratitude to her dear friend, Barb and to her thoughtful, caring neighbors who came to her aid so frequently. As a result of your love and concern, she was able to live this last year in the comfort of her own home.
