Robert Johnstone McCutcheon, Jr. was born in Pasadena, CA on August 2, 1921 to Robert J. McCutcheon, Sr. and Helen McCullagh McCutcheon. He was the husband of Doris Fulmer of Frederick, MD.

Robert lived with his family in Pasadena, CA until 1933 when they moved to Braddock Heights, MD. He attended Middletown High School where he excelled in academics, track and field, and served as Senior Class President of the graduating class of 1940. He attended Fullerton Junior College in 1940-41 in Fullerton, CA then returned home to work at Fairchild Aircraft, Hagerstown, in the quality control department. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942 and served in the U.S., England, France, and Germany as a flight engineer on transport planes. After he was discharged in 1945 he attended the University of Maryland, College of Business and Public Administration, in College Park and graduated in 1950.

His father, Robert McCutcheon, Sr., along with his grandfather, William O. McCutcheon owned and operated McCutcheon Apple Processing Co. in Frederick, MD. The family business produced apple cider for local farmers. When his father died suddenly at the age of 54 in 1947, Robert continued the family business, along with his mother Helen, his brother William, and with the aid of his sisters Barbara and Rebecca. Robert and William continued the business, expanding the product line and sales territory considerably. They incorporated in 1971 as McCutcheon Apple Products, Inc. which remains in business to this day. Robert continued to work until 2015 when he had a stroke at age 94. He then served on the Board of Directors until his death. Working with his family was his pride and joy.

The highlight of Robert's life was being married to his wife Doris. They were married June 12, 1954 and made their home in Braddock Heights, MD. They traveled throughout the U.S., Egypt, England, Scotland, Ireland, Costa Rica, Italy, Greece, Spain, Morocco, the Virgin Islands, Mexico, Cuba, and a thousand mile cruise up the Amazon River. Robert enjoyed swimming, boating, building kites, photography, butterfly-watching, and visiting the beach with his family. He was an active lifelong member of Frederick Presbyterian Church. He was instrumental in the formation of the Braddock Heights Community Association and was a charter member of the Braddock Heights Historical Society, serving as Historian for several years.

Robert was predeceased by his wife of 47 years, Doris Fulmer McCutcheon. He was also predeceased by two sisters; Helen Devlin of Lake Placid, NY, and Essie Smith of Davis, CA. He is survived by his beloved companion Lucille Davis, his brother William J. McCutcheon, and sisters Rebecca McCutcheon Griffin and Barbara McCutcheon Martin, all of the Frederick area. Also surviving are his four children; Robert J. McCutcheon III (Susan) of Frederick, Jennifer McCutcheon Painter (Randy) of Middletown, Vanessa McCutcheon Smith (Gerald) of Middletown, and Andrew R. McCutcheon (Carmen) of Santa Clarita, CA. Robert had 9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
