Funeral services for Mr. Eugene Henry Aswell, Sr., age 87, of Bastrop, will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 17, 2006 at the Chapel of Cox Funeral Home with Rev. John McGregor and Rev. Willis Wilkerson officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home, Bastrop.
Visitation with the family will be Monday evening from 5 p.m. till 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Aswell was born December 4, 1919 in Wildsville, Louisiana and he died April 14, 2007 at Summerlin Lane Nursing Home in Bastrop.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Preston Aswell and Ida Chevallier Aswell, a son, Eugene Henry Aswell, Jr., two brothers, and two sisters.
He was a lifelong resident of Bastrop and a member of Cherry Ridge Church of God. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he served in the Euorpean Campaign. He also served in the Civilian Conservation Corporation. Mr. Aswell was employed at I.P. Company for 35 years retiring in 1982. He was an avid fisherman and gardener. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Alice Elaine Powell Aswell, two daughters, Evelyn Aswell Martin and husband, Gary of West Monroe, Annette Aswell Cornman and husband, Gary of Greenwell Springs, Louisiana, a son, Jeffrey Aswell and wife, Karen of Calhoun, Louisiana, daughter in law, Judy Aswell of Bastrop, two brothers, Oscar "Pete" Aswell of Madisonville, Texas, Homer Aswell of Dallas, Texas, four sisters, Audrey Lawson of Houston, Texas, Jimmie Lee Curry of Crowville, Louisiana, Janet McGaha of Houston, Texas, Dorothy Woodard of Collinston, Louisiana, ten grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.
