Mary Ellen (Aungier) O'Hara, 94, died May 8, 2018, at home in the presence of her loving family. Born in Lafayette, Mary was the daughter of the late Edward and Julia (McManus) Aungier. Mary graduated at the young age of nineteen from Syracuse University with a degree in Home Economics. In years past, she was an active member of the Women's Club of the NY State Fair, the Ladies Division of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and was an active member of the Democratic Party. She retired from the Onondaga County Department of Social Services. Mary was a very active member of the parish she loved for over 65 years, Most Holy Rosary Parish. Most important in Mary's life were her faith and her family. On any special occasion when Mary would be asked by one of her daughters "what piece of jewelry could we give you", she would always respond "I have all the jewels I could ever want with my children and grandchildren". Mary was predeceased by her husband, Robert V., and three daughters, Colleen, Mary Margaret and Maureen and one grandchild, Brigid. She was also predeceased by her two brothers, Bernard and William. Mary leaves behind five daughters, Kathleen, Eileen, Sheila (Chip), Teresa (Mark), and Donna (Todd), and five sons, Fr. Michael OMI, Joseph (Ann), Robert, Daniel (Monique) and Kevin (Dawn). Mary is survived by thirty-two grandchildren and thirty-four great-grandchildren. There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Monday, May 14, 2018 at Most Holy Rosary Church, 111 Roberts Ave., Syracuse, NY by her son, Fr. Michael. A special thanks and appreciation are extended by the family to Hospice of Central NY for their gentle care given to our mother. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to "Teal There's a Cure" 157 Hancock Dr., Syracuse, NY 13207 or to Most Holy Rosary Church. Arrangements are being handled by Whelan Bros. and Hulchanski Funeral Home of Syracuse, NY.
