ALFRED R "DICK" HIPKE
(1927 - 2017)

To live in the hearts we leave behind is not to die.

Dick was born June 23, 1927 to Richard and Annacille Hipke of New Holstein Wisconsin, and died at the age of 90 on December 4, 2017.

He graduated from New Holstein High School in 1945, then enlisted in the US Navy, serving two years on the USS Brister, and was honorably discharged. When he returned to New Holstein he joined his family's business, A.T. Hipke and Sons, serving as secretary of the company. In 1965 he and other family members began Hipke Packing Corporation in Cleveland, WI where he served as president. Many people in the area were either growers of vegetables or employed with the canning factory.

He was an active member of the National and State Canners Associations. He also served as a New Holstein alderman and was vice commander of the American Legion Post 124. Dick was a past master of the New Holstein Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include his three children, Dana Lee Hipke, of Kimberly, Tom (Susie) Hipke of Ballarat, Australia and Paula Libbin, of Oshkosh, four grandchildren, Jennifer (Billy) Anderson, Ross (Mandy) Hipke, all of Ballarat, Australia, Ann (Joshua "Okinawa" Wegerer) Libbin of Oshkosh, David Libbin of Milwaukee, and three great-grandsons, Sonny Leigh and Chester Alfred Anderson and Fletcher Wilson Hipke, also of Ballarat, Australia. Also surviving are his wife, Jean Pelischek, of Manitowoc and her sons Tim (Linda) and Jeff (Debbie) Pelischek along with their families. Dick was especially fond of his loving sisters, "Honey" (John) Leibham of New Holstein and Harriet (Chuck) Stoll of Madison. He was predeceased by his first wife, Leila Aggen.

Dick loved life. He was a great gift giver, enjoyed throwing parties and had a terrific personality along with keen wit. His nieces, nephews and grandchildren will always remember him as "LEGENDARY"!

Dick's family expresses heartfelt gratitude to his additional "family" at both Manitowoc Health Center and Riverwood Place, for their personal care and friendship with Dick through the years.

A TOAST to DICK'S LIFE will be held on July 7, 2018 in New Holstein.

If you would like to make a contribution in Dick's memory, the New Holstein Historical Society would be very appreciative.
