John George Stark, 1830 - 1901

John George Stark, son of Johann George and Anna Maria Walther Stark (Maria was also known as Mary Walder) was born on Monday, September 27, 1830 in Klein Siebach, Bavaria, Germany. He was married to Martha A. Tennell, daughter of Benjamin and Jane Stoga Tennell on Thursday, March 13, 1856 in Marion County, Missouri and they made their home on his father's farm, located 2 1/2 miles east of Palmyra in Marion County, Missouri, he died there in September of 1901.

In a short autobiograpgy from the "History of Marion County, Missouri", dated 1884 the following paragraph is noted:

JOHN GEORGE STARK.

Mr. Stark is a native of Bavaria, Germany, born September 27, 1830. He is a son of George and Mary Walder Stark. His father came to America in 1845, sailing from the Port of Bremen, and landing in New Orleans. He came direct from there to Marion County, and shortly afterward purchased the place now owned by J. G. Stark, where he engaged in farming until his death in 1870; His wife, the mother of the subject of this paragraph, died in 1835 in Germany. Mr John G. Stark was raised on a farm and received a fair education. He was married in Marion County on March 12, 1856, to Miss Martha Tennell, daughter of Benjamin Tennell, of this county. Of this union 12 children were born, one of whom died in infancy; the others are: Mary, William, Kate, Samuel, Margaret ("Maggie"), Henry, Otto, (deceased); John, Elizabeth, Louisa and Cealy (Celia?). Mr Stark owns 160 acres of well improved, productive land 2 and one half miles east of Palmyra. He is a through farmer. He belongs to the Ancient Order of United Workmen, and has been a member of the Lutheran Church since he was twelve years of age.

The Atlas of Marion County, Missouri dated 1901 lists the land districts of J. G. Stark as 80 acres and his son William, also with 80 acres, both plots were in the Sutter School District. This would indicate that prior to his death, John G. Stark had divided the original 160 acres of his father's farm into equal acres for he and his son William Stark.
