Logan W. Mayfield, Son of James William and Sarah Eva Meltabarger Mayfield, was born on Monday, June 8, 1884 in Ursa Township, Adams County, Illinois and died at 6:50 a.m. on Wednesday June 5, 1963, in St. Mary's Hospital at Quincy, Adams County, Illinois. He died three days before his 79th birthday. He married Louise "LuLu" Altgilbers on Wednesday, June 19, 1907 in Adams County, Illinois.

Logan worked for the CB&Q (Chicago, Burlington & Quincy) Railroad all of his adult life and before his retirement, had been a Locomotive Engineer for 47 years. His daughter Evelyn H. Mayfield Finke was listed as the informant on his death certificate. Logan was a grandson of Uriah and Mary Jane Grimes Mayfield, one of the earliest families to settle in Ursa Township, Adams County, Illinois, after migrating there from their home in St. Mathew Township, Jefferson County, Kentucky in the spring of 1837. Logan is buried in the Calvary Cemetery on North 18th Street in Quincy, Adams County, Illinois.
