"Charlie D. "Dolph" Salyers of 4150 Lee Highway, Bristol, Va., born 9/28/1923, died Monday, July 10, 1989, at his home.

He was a native of Russell county and had lived in Tazewell for 40 years before moving to Bristol in 1984. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion Post No. 133 in Tazewell. He was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ada Moore Salyers, one son, Thomas H. Salyers, Green Cove Springs, Fla. four sisters Mrs. Bessie Salyers Boothe, Marion, Mrs. Effa Mae Warren, Leckie, W. Va., Mrs. Vick Salyers Sims Hicks, Powhatan, Va. and Mrs. Myrtle Salyers Muncey Cookson, Dodd of Massillon, Ohio; one brother, Henry Ford Salyers, Castlewood, Va. and four grand children."

This obit was sent to me without the name of the paper, but most likely was from the Bristol Herald.

Charlie was the son of George Thomas Salyers and Sarah Kathryn Austin Salyers. Sarah married George Thomas Salyer on 10-06-1911 and from this union, they had 11 children: Martha Lucinda, John William "JW", Bessie Frances, Bill Thomas, Charlie Dolphus, Ibbie Victoria, Myrtle Anne, Effa Mae, Henry Ford, Robert Nathan, and Margaret "Maggie."

Charlie and Ada Moore Salyers had two children: Charlie D. Salyers, Jr., who preceded his father in death, and Thomas H. Salyers, known as "Tom."
