Tursell Mildred Childs Larsen died Monday, April 30, 2007, at St. Luke's Assisted Living Facility. She had lived 101 years, 5 months, and 25 days.

She was born October 5, 1905, in Gunnison, Utah, to Edward and Matilda Childs. Tursell graduated from Snow College of Ephraim, Utah with a teaching certificate. This is where she met William Eugene "Gene" Larsen. They were married for all time and eternity in the Manti Utah Temple on May 18th, 1928. For a brief time she taught at a local elementary school. They moved to Virginia in 1934, where her husband worked at DuPont's Benger Laboratory. Gene died in 1976; they had been married for 44 years.

Tursell was known for her church service and love of flowers. For years she belonged to the Shenandoah Valley Garden Club where her flower arrangements won many prizes. She was an active member of the Waynesboro Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. For many years this organization met in their home. Her positions included Relief Society President both of the local and district level, primary teacher, temple worker among many others.

She was preceded in death by her parents and stepmother, Evelyn Peterson Larsen Childs; four brothers, Gilbert, Howard, Lynn, and Von; seven sisters, Elna Bushnell, Margaret Olauson, Eva Anderson, Ardell Nielson, Virginia Rosenlund, Mariel Rydolch, and Elaine; one grandson, George Franklin Patterson; husband, William Eugene Larsen, and her son William Edward Larsen.

She is survived by a brother, Gordon Dee Childs of St. George, Utah; four children, Shirley Jean Carmack of Fishersville, Virginia, Flora Mae Patterson of Charlottesville, Virginia, Wayne Ammon Larsen of Provo, Utah, and George Douglas Larsen of Lexington, Virginia.

She also is survived by 20 grandchildren, Frederick Larsen, Jonathan Larsen, Geoffrey Larsen, Hayes Larsen, Kirk Larsen, Ross Larsen, Whitney Larsen, Courtney Larsen Allen, Lesley Larsen Nesbit, Richard Carmack, David Carmack, Doug Carmack, Donna Carmack Hawkins, Tara Larsen Chang, Tory Larsen Taber, Maren Larsen MacMichael, Mark Patterson, Alex Patterson, Lorin Patterson, Karen Patterson Phelps; and 48 great-grandchildren, living in many parts of the United States and world.

Tursell was a wonderful cook, garden and flower arranger, seamstress, decorator and enjoyed antique furniture. Her home, lawn and gardens reflected one who loved God, family and country. She loved to decorate her home for holidays and especially Christmas. One year their home was on the Community Christmas Tour.

Her family always came first. While raising their five children their home was often filled with children and young adults because they felt loved and welcomed. She participated in her church and community service all her life. She constantly was involved in visiting, calling and writing family, friends and those in need. She firmly believed in education and all of her children were college graduates. She loved her children and her grandchildren. She was devoted to her husband and now she gets to be with him.

A viewing will be held on from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, May 4, 2007, at the McDow Funeral Home in Waynesboro.

The funeral will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on 2825 Jefferson Lane in Waynesboro at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 5, 2007.
