SHOREHAM, VT. - Ernest "Ernie" John Turpin, age 82, of Shoreham, passed away on Wednesday, August 15th 2018 at the Helen Porter Health & Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury, Vt.

Ernie was born on March 11th 1936 in New Haven, Vt., he was the son of Edgar and Ruth Mae (Naylor) Turpin.

He grew up in Shoreham, Vt. where he received his early education and had attended Shoreham High School.

He served proudly in the United States Army.

Following his Honorable Discharge in 1961, he returned home and worked the Family Farm.

He married Mary Ann Landon on October 21st 1961 at the St. Genevieve’s Catholic Church in Shoreham, Vermont. She predeceased him on February 8th 2016.

He retired from Shoreham Telephone Company in 1998 following 30 years of service.

In his earlier years, one of his passions was snowmobiling. He was a past president of Shoreham Snow Travelers.

He also served as Assistant Director, then Director, for Addison County VAST.

He was a longtime member of the Shoreham Volunteer Fire Department and belonged to Brandon American Legion Post #55, where he served as a member of the Funeral Honors Detail for many years.

He and his late wife enjoyed traveling. Their ocean cruise’s, and trips to Hawaii where some of their highlights in life.

He was predeceased by his parents; his father Edgar Turpin on March 4th 1959 and his mother Ruth Turpin on June 17th 1990, three sisters; Arlene Ruth (Turpin) Smith on March 10th 1992, Shirley May (Turpin) Bushey on September 12th 2011, and Germaine "Polly" Ida (Turpin) Hrydziusko on January 28th 2003, one brother; Albert Henry Turpin on November 28th 2017, and three brothers-in-law; William Russell Smith on June 5th 2004, Walter "Walt" Roger Bushey on June 30th 2018, and Wesley Joseph Hrydziusko on July 13th 2018.

Arrangements by the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon, Vt.

The graveside committal service and burial with Military Honors will take place on Sunday, August 19th 2018 at 12 noon in the family lot at the St. Genevieve’s Cemetery in Shoreham, Vt.
