Virginia "Ginny" (Gates) Stiefvater Wojta

Two Rivers - Virginia "Ginny" Wojta, age 88, a resident of Two Rivers, died peacefully on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at Wisteria Haus Assisted Living. Ginny was born January 19, 1930, in Two Rivers, daughter of the late Albert and Dorothy (Stronks) Gates. She graduated from Washington High School with the class of 1947. While in high school Ginny was an avid swimmer and was a member of the "Polliwog Club". She worked at the Kresge Company during her school years. Ginny was employed by Kahlenberg Brothers and Hamilton Mfg. Co. in the "Steno" Pool. During the Christmas season she worked at the JC Penney store in Two Rivers. After raising her children, Ginny was employed for 25 years at the Firstar Bank in Two Rivers (now U.S. Bank) retiring April 30, 1992 as Supervisor of the Loan Department, a position she thoroughly enjoyed. On April 16, 1979 she married Larry Wojta in Manitowoc. He preceded her in death on February 12, 1985. Ginny was a Girl Scout leader for many years receiving a Leader Statue in 1967, volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul, was a former member of the Two Rivers Senior Center, Two Rivers Historical Society, Rogers Street Fishing Village, Senior Bowling League, YMCA Early Morning Swimmers, and Co-chairman for funeral luncheons at St. Luke Church and St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church for 16 years, retiring on June 30, 2008. She was also known as "Mrs. Santa" for many years in the Two Rivers Christmas Parade riding the Firstar Bank float with Mr. Claus (Wally Burn).

Survivors include her two daughters and sons-in-law: Denise (Stiefvater) Elfering and her husband Richard, Two Rivers; Cindy (Stiefvater) Panosh and her husband, Wally, Two Rivers; three grandchildren: Erin (Paul) Ruffolo, Chicago, IL; Adam Panosh, Two Rivers; Tony Elfering, Two Rivers; three great grandchildren: Caleb Ruffolo, Aria Panosh, and Cassidy Crowe one brother and sister-in-law: Neil and Carol Gates, Littleton, CO; one nephew: Craig Gates, CO; one niece: Alyson (Tom) Fritz, CO; and her beloved cat "Tootsie", who was adopted by a wonderful young couple. Other relatives and friends also survive.

She was also preceded in death by the father of her two daughters, Richard Stiefvater; her dear friend, Lorraine Zelinski, and her beloved pets throughout her lifetime; Mickey, Topsy, Ginger, DaisyMae, Digby and Sadie.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, Two Rivers. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be Rev. Tom Reynebeau. Cremation will follow at All-Care Cremation Center, Manitowoc, and Ginny will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery in Manitowoc at a later date.

The family will greet relatives and friends on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church from 9:00 am until 10:45 am.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Ginny's name may be made to the Lakeshore Humane Society, 1551 No 8th Street, Manitowoc 54220 or the Alzheimer's Association, Greater Wisconsin Chapter, 2600 Curry Lane, Green Bay, WI 54311.

Ginny was known for her contagious laugh, spunky spirit and her recipe for a long life which was a "Vodka Gimlet" (light on the lime). She was a great mother and friend to her daughters, and will be truly missed.
