BESS – Walter E., 90, passed away November 2, 2012, at Baptist Hospital Northeast in LaGrange, KY. Born and raised in Louisville in Butchertown and on "The Point," he and his wife Shirley were residents of Westport, KY for many years; they loved the river and their neighbors. "The good times" with Walt involved fishing, family, friends, tall tales, good food and drink. He will be remembered for his gentle spirit and sense of fun; his humor was a gift to his family and caregivers until the very end. Walt was an Air Force veteran of World War II, a lifetime member of VFW Post #1170 and a Kentucky Colonel. He retired as warehouse supervisor from Peterson Electric Supply Co. He is preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Shirley Williams Bess; mother, Mamie Etta Morrison Bess; father, Walter E. Bess, and brothers, Charles M. Bess and J.D. Bess. He is survived by: daughter, Deborah E. Goldberg; brother, Kenneth W. Bess and many nieces, nephews and their families. Visitation will be held 4-8 p.m. Monday, at Arch L. Heady-Cralle Funeral Home, 2428 Frankfort Ave. A service to celebrate Walter's life will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Chapel of the Last Supper Mausoleum at Resthaven Memorial Park, 4400 Bardstown Road. Memorial donations suggested to your favorite charity.
