J.D. Bess, 58, of 170 N. Bellaire Ave., died Friday [January 18, 1985] at Veterans Administration Medical Center. He was a retired employee of Min's East End Cafe, a former driver for Yellow Cab Co., a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of Grace Immanuel United Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife, the former Nell Bryant; a son, Bud E. Bess; three daughters, Mrs. Susan Elroy of Bowling Green, Mrs. Jackie Farris and Mrs. Stephenie Hix; three brothers, Walter E., Charles M. & Kenneth W. Bess; and seven grandchildren. The funeral will be at 1:45 p.m. Monday at Cralle-Neurath-Underwood Funeral Home, 725 E. Market St., with burial in Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation at the funeral home will be after 6 p.m. Saturday.
