of Brandywine HundredJohn was a Wilmington tanner who served as a private in the Delaware Militia, Wilmington North Division in 1778.

In Dec of 1769, at Centre Meeting (?) ( and noted in Kennett MM records as well), he married Hannah Gilpin, daughter of Joseph Gilpin and Mary Caldwell of Christiana Hundred. They had at least seven children.

After John died, his family (except his son Joseph) moved to the Quaker community of Short Creek, Jefferson County, Ohio, where they were received 1st mo. 17, 1807.
