James Hanlon, Sr and the Hanlon family were part of the Peter Robinson settlerment in Ontario, Canada just north of Kingston on Lake Erie, during the summer and fall of 1825. The only child born on Canadian soil was James, Jr in Otonabee township just outside of Peterborough, Ontario on the Hanlon homestead.

At Saint Peter in Chains Roman Catholic Church in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada on 24 Jan 1848, Reverend Butler married James Hanlon and Julia O'Brien, the daughter of Bridget Farrell and John O'Brien.

From WPA:
James Hanlon, d. 1887, buried St. Joseph Cemetery, Iowa City; Civil War marker (unfortunately the marker apparently no longer exists, but the fact that his grave was marked with his service is noted in military and cemetery records)
