Raymond Coughlin
OTTUMWA – Raymond A. Coughlin, 77, of 748 Grace died Nov. 28, 1999, at his home.
He was born Feb. 27, 1922, in Ottumwa to Thomas P. and Dollie O. Mabis Coughlin. He married Ruth I. Freed on June 7, 1942, in Albia; she died April 27, 1995. He graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1940 and served his country with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked at John Morrell & Co. more than 20 years until the plant closed in 1973. He retired from John Deere Ottumwa Works in 1983. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and O.B. Nelson Post #3, American Legion.
He is survived by two daughters, Cheryl McClure of Creston and Mickey Sims of Topeka, Kan.; five grandchildren; and a brother, James Coughlin of Yakima, Wash.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Wanda Irene Coughlin; a sister, Margaret Bean; and a brother, Virgil Coughlin.
The service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home, the Rev. Derrick Haskins of Wesley United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery with military rites conducted by O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion and Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Pallbearers will be Larry and Lonnie McClure, Jeff and Jason Sims, Blake Stevens and Bob Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Max Sigman, Ralph White, John Comer, Herb McClure and Wally Covert. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday with family present from 6 to 8 p.m.
