Pneumonia is Fatal

Tenor was Native of Omaha -Had Been in Failing Health for Two Years
John A. McCreary, tenor and life long resident of Omaha, died of pneumonia at 12:30 pm Monday at his home, 907 Sourth Twenty-seventh street. He was 61. Mr. McCreary had been failing in health for the past two years, but his condition was not believed serious until about six weeks ago. Mr. McCreary had sung in leading churches in the city. He was an Elk and was for 11 years the lodge organist. He was also a member of the fourth degree, Knights of Columbus. Beside his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. A. G. Printy and Mrs. C. J. Heider, three sons, Edward S. of Omaha, W. Harry of Ponca City, and Leo R. of Los Angeles, three brothers Harry, William and James all of Omaha and four grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held from St. Peters church at 10am Wed with Rev. James Stenson officiating. Burial will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.


JOHN ANDREW MCCREARY, was born 5 April 1867, Nebraska to John McCreary and Mary Creighton and died 11 February 1929, 907 S. 27th St., Omaha and is buried Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Omaha with his wife. J. A. is listed in 1881-1882 with his residence at 1706 Chicago with his parents. In 1883 he was listed as a student at Creighton University. In 1884 he was listed as a student at Wyman College and living at 1706 Chicago. In 1885 he was a student at Omaha Coml. College and resided at 1706 Chicago.

John A. McCreary, age 21 married Alice B. Coombe, age 20, 20 June 1888, Omaha. Alice was born in September 1866 in England and died about 5 December 1944.

McCleary [sic indexed as], 33, head, born April 1867, Nebraska, musician, married 12 years; Alice B., 33, wife, born September 1866, England, 5 children and 5 living; Edward S., 9, April 1891, Nebraska; William H., 7, May 1893, Indiana Territory; Leo R., 4, July 1895, Nebraska; and Mary, 10 months, born August 1899, Nebraska. The 1900 city directory shows them living at 2620 Sahler. In 1910 they were in Omaha and listed as John A. McCreary, 42, married 21 years, clerk, Woodman of World; Alice, 41, 5 children and 5 living, immigrated in 1870 from England; Edward, 19, Nebraska, no occupation; Henry, 17, Oklahoma, Leo, 14, Nebraska; and Arline, 10, Nebraska. In 1920 they were in Omaha and listed as John A McCreary, 52, clerk shipping, Alice B, 51; W. Harry, 26, son, single, repairer automobiles; Leo R., 24, single, optician manufacturing; Eleanor C. Rath [sic], daughter, widow, steno dept. store; Clarence J. Heider, 21, son-in-law, married, teller asst paying; Mary A. Heider, 20, daughter, married, steno, Internal Revenue. In 1930 in Omaha, Alice McCreary was listed as lodger, 62, widowed, England, no occupation.
