JoAnn S. Monka, age 70, a Manitowoc resident, died peacefully Monday, Oct. 2, 2006, at her daughter's home in Neenah.

JoAnn was born Feb. 8, 1936, in Manitowoc, daughter of the late Joseph and Emma (Vesley) Stadler. She graduated from Lincoln High School, Manitowoc, class of 1954. On May 4, 1957, she married James J. Monka at Holy Innocents Catholic Church, Manitowoc. He preceded her in death on March 16, 2006. JoAnn was employed at the Register in Probate office of Manitowoc County for 25 years, serving as the Register in Probate the last 10 years, retiring in 1997. She was also active at St. Boniface Catholic Church, where she served on the parish council and worked with the athletic program for many years. JoAnn loved her life. She loved spending her winters in Texas, and resorting in Wild Rose in the summer, where she soaked up the sun with the girls on the beach, socialized around the campfire with friends, and cheered on the Pink Elephants. At home she enjoyed making apple pies, quilting, and serving everyone her famous homemade soups. She especially loved her family: Jim, her husband of almost 50 years; her children; and her beautiful granddaughters.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law: Linda and Joel Staffaroni of Neenah, and Susan and Dan Carlson of Green Bay; two sons and daughters-in-law: James and Linda Monka Jr. of Wyocena, and Steven and Jean Monka of Manitowoc; five granddaughters: Lindsay Staffaroni of Appleton, Trisha Monka of Eau Claire, Karley Monka of Manitowoc, Kaitlyn Carlson of Stevens Point, and Brittany Carlson of Green Bay; three step-grandchildren: Mackenzie Mraz of Manitowoc, and Roger Kueffer and Jennifer Horton, both of Wyocena; four step-great-grandchildren; three sisters and two brothers-in-law: Dolores and Tony Kubis of Manitowoc, Mary and Bill Green of Manitowoc, and Dorothy Gauthier of Sturgeon Bay: two brothers and sisters-in-law: Wayne and Marilyn Stadler of Two Rivers, and Joseph and MaryAnn Stadler of Thomson, Ga.; and one brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Charles and Carol Monka of Tucson. Ariz. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, Jim, and parents, she was preceded in death by her father-in-law and mother-in-law: Jerome and Evelyn Monka; one nephew: Michael Monka; one niece: Sharon Kubis Bosserman; one brother: Ronald Stadler; and one brother-in-law: Omer James Gauthier.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 6, 2006, at St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Daniel Felton. Cremation will have taken place.

The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo from 9 a.m. Friday, Oct. 6, 2006, until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m.

The Pfeffer Funeral Home and Cremation Care Center, Manitowoc, is assisting the Monka family with funeral arrangements.

Morn, you filled our hearts with happiness and our tummies with love. Christmas won't be the some without you, but we'll take comfort in knowing you are with Dad.
