Born January 21, 1927 in Delphos, Ohio.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, John and Ida Falter; her husband of 40 years, Dr. John B. Grewe; her brother, Richard Falter; and brother, Fr. John Falter, a retired missionary priest.
Mary married Dr. J. B. ("Doc") Grewe in 1948. The two moved to Winnetka, IL where she opened a dress shop, & "Doc" opened his first optometric office. Years later they relocated Doc's practice to Crystal Lake, IL, and Mary worked for Home State Bank. They became first-time parents in 1964, which is also when Mary changed careers to be a stay-at-home Mom. The Grewe's were 30+ year members of Crystal Lake's St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. Mary later became a member of St. Malachy Catholic Church in Brownsburg.
Mary is survived by her children, John J. (Sue) Grewe of Wonder Lake, IL and daughter, Shari (Walt) O'Riley of Brownsburg, IN; four loving grandchildren and one great grandchild. Mary also has five siblings and a number of nieces and nephews across the country.
Friends and family remember Mary as "sweet, gentle, fun-loving & witty." She was well-known for her creative personalized greeting cards, but even more so as an incredible dance partner, as she & husband "Doc" loved to dance.
