Fort Bend Herald, July 1, 2009:

Eva Lewandowski Bennett went to be with the Lord Wednesday, June 29, 2009, after a courageous fight with lung cancer. A funeral mass is 10 a.m. Thursday, July 2, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Danbury. Burial follows in St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation is 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a 7 p.m. Christian wake, Wednesday, July 1, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church.

Eva was born Feb. 4, 1928 in Chappell Hill, the third of five children born to Frank and Veronica Tomczak Lewandowski, and was raised in Richmond. When Eva went to school, she could only speak Polish. Though Eva was small, she was the one on the farm who could pick the most cotton. She married Red Bennett in 1949, and raised three children in Danbury, where she helped her husband with rice farming and ranching, continuing even after Red's death in 1993, with the help of her family.

Eva was a homemaker; she loved to cook, garden, fish, crochet, quilt, pot plants, hunt, play slot machines, attend family gatherings, feed the squirrels, and bottle-feed baby calves.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, L.H. "Red" Bennett; her parents; special granddaughter, Teri Veronica Bazar, age 10, in 1990; sister, Regina Michalak of Houston; and brother, Maxie Lewandowski of McAllen.

Survivors include her children, Jackie Kocurek and husband, Jerry, D.L. "Bubba" Bennett and wife, Cynthia, and Brenda Stephens and husband, Mark, all of Danbury; eight grandchildren, Tracy and Pat Linscombe, Jeremy and Laurie Bazar, Doug and Julie Bennett, Jeff and Jenny Fletcher, Casey Fletcher and Cheryl Latiolais, Stacey Keefer, Casey Stephens and Mindi Stephens; eight great-grandchildren, Dalton and Breana Linscombe, Gus and Jake Bazar, Madyson Bennett, June Fletcher, Cannin Keefer, and Selah Mosley; sister, Theresa Bailey of Houston; and brother, Clem Lewandowski of Tomball

The family would like to give special thanks to Helping Hands and Hearts; and Catherine, Sue, Bunnie, Ruth and Randy.

Donations may be made to Helping Hands and Hearts Hospice, 412 Plantation Dr., Lake Jackson, Texas 77566, in lieu of usual remembrances.
