DAVID FRANKLIN HANOLD, born in PA 12 June 1856-29 December 1935. He came with his family to Southern Indiana at the age of five. At age forty-four he moved to Illinois, where he spent the remainder of his life. Married MELVINA RANEY. Five children, three having survived their father: Ida Krenzien of Clearwater, Nebraska; Will, Carrier Mills, and Lizzie Wells of Mt. Vernon, Indiana. His first wife passed away about fifty years ago, leaving beside the children mentioned above a small daughter, Oleva Brothers, by a former marriage whom uncle Daved reared like his own. (note: I believe Oleva is Ida's from a previous marriage. Oleva is Lisa Oleva Douglas) In 1887 (marriage record says 1889) he married Ida Douglas (maiden name McKinney). To this union were born six children, Sarah Stephens (Stephan), Carmi; Gertrude Stephens (Stephan), Mt Vernon, Indiana; Harvey (David Arva), Springerton, Illinois; Minuard, Danville, Illinois; Flora Cain and Raymond, Norris City, Illiois. Leaves wife, thirty-nine grandchildren, thirty-seven great grandchildren and friends. He was a member of the General Baptist Church. Funeral at Methodist Church. Burial: IOOF Cemetery.

Recently, I took a trip to Carmi and Norris City, Illinois. At the White County Historical Society, I obtained death announcements and obituaries. I now have a death certificate for David Franklin Hanold that I obtained from the county clerk. This death certificate lists his parents as unknown. Ironically, the death announcements list David as David Hanold. His death certificate states his name is David Franklin Hanover. Some census records lists him as Hanover and some list him as Hanold. It looks like David went by Hanover and Hanold. Someday someone will have the information I need to clear up this surname mystery.
