Mary was born October 22, 1914 in Holladay, Utah, the daughter of George Carlos and Lillian Emery Smith. Married Dallas Warren North in October 1935. Marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on May 2, 1938. Dallas preceded her in death September 4, 1959.
Mary held many significant callings within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but most notably loved music as a ward organist for over 50 years, under nine different bishops and played for 109 funerals. She was very proud of winning the Granite District piano contest while in school.
Mary worked most of her life as a secretary. Her last and longest position was for the LDS Church offices, five years in the Genealogy Dept., and 19 years as executive secretary to head of the church building department. It was there that she met her second husband, John Paul Ward. They married May 20, 1965. They shared 30 years together in the latter part of their lives, residing in Sugarhouse. John preceded her in death on September 30, 1995. Mary knew personally five presidents of the church, one her Uncle, Joseph Fielding Smith, and her Grandfather, Joseph F. Smith.
Funeral Services were held on Monday, December 21, 1998 at Holladay Cottonwood Mortuary, 4670 Highland Drive at 11 A.M. Friends and Family attended a Viewing on Sunday, December 20, from 6-8 P.M. and One Hour Prior To Services.
Graveside Services followed at the Holladay Memorial Park where she was buried.
