Joseph Cann was the son of William and Jane (probably McLaughlin) Cann. He removed with his parents from Green Co., PA to Butler Co., OH before 1840. It is probable that he and Catherine Biddinger (aka Bittinger) married before the removal to OH. His obituary from the "Venice Graphic," Nov. 17, 1893 reads as follows:

"Joseph Cann was born Nov. 6, 1804 in Green Co., Penn., died at his home in Morgan Township, Butler County, Ohio, Nov. 8, 1893 aged 89 years and 2 days.

"April 2, 1834, he was married to Catharine Biddinger to whom four children were born and all are still living. On April 30, 1872, he was married a second time to Harriet E. Joyce to whom seven children were born.

"The deceased lived for nearly sixty years on the farm where he died. He leaves by his first marriage, 4 children, 13 grand-children and 5 great-grandchildren; by his second marriage, a wife and 7 children.

"His remains were interred at New London. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Cundy in the presence of a large congregation." (Congregational Church in Shandon, OH/ JKA)
