Joseph Barnett, Jr. born 1760 was the son of Joseph Barnett, Sr. and Elizabeth Graham, of Hanover Twp., Lancaster (1785 became Dauphin) Co., Pennsylvania. He married Sarah Dickson of Chambersburg. He died on 3 Jun 1812, at the residence of his daughter Mrs. (Sarah Barnett) McClure, (the wife of Andrew McClure) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania Genealogies; Chiefly Scotch-Irish and German, by Dr. William Henry Egle, 1896, p 64-65, 69+. (Note p 62: Brothers "William and John both had sons named Joseph.")

Seek obit for exact day of death.

They had Barnett children:

Joseph, III, 27 Aug 1784 (Mary Boyd)

Polly, 1786 (John Hume, NY & IN)

Sarah, 1788 (Andrew McClure & or Geo Duke)

Richard, 1790 - died in Missouri (Could he be FaG #176841460 in Pennsylvania as man in Missouri was Virginia born?)

According to the Historical Marker Database, the 1947 road marker (#p111071) on Pennsylvania Route 39 on Please Hill Road next to several mailboxes and the "WEST 39" road sign says: "BARNETT'S FORT, North at the head of Beaver Creek, Joseph Barnett's log-house was a frontier refuge in 1756-63 against Indians raiding the frontier. His son William was stolen by Indians in 1756 and not recovered until 1763 by Col. Henry Bouquet. PENNSYLVANIA HISTORICAL AND MUSEUM COMMISSION." The site adds: "Location. 40° 21.102′ N, 76° 45.9′ W. Marker is near Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, in Dauphin County. It is in Lower Paxton Township."

"Joseph BARNETT b 1754 #6 or 1760 #2 Barnett's Conquest #6 (sic*); d 3 Jun 1812 Pittsburgh; m Sarah DICKSON #2 / DICKENSON (b 1760 Chambersburg, Pennsylvania; d 28 Sep 1838 Pittsburgh). #6 Joseph served during the Am Rev War. #6 Both buried in Beulah Churchyard six miles from Pittsburgh on north side of Monongahela River. #6" Charles Todd's sources for #2: William Henry Egle's. Pennsylvania Genealogies, 2nd edition. Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, 1896 and #6: Descendants of William Barnett, 1679-1762, compiled by James Duff Barnett; EDITED by members of the Genealogical Forum of Portland, Oregon, Inc., 1969 (per Familysearch LDS books, 929.273 B264. Also at 'http://freepages.rootsweb.com/~jessebarnett/genealogy/chucktod.htm"

*However, "Barnett's Conquest" is located today in Lower Paxton, Dauphin Co., Pennsylvania (per the Historical Marker database above), but would have been in Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania between 1729-1785, when Joseph was born. My experience has been, that you may need to search records in BOTH Lancaster Co. and Dauphin Co. at the court houses.

Recent suggestions: Joseph Barnett, Jr. was b. 1754; d. Pittsburgh, Pa. June 5th 1812.

Joseph Barnett Sr.'s father was instead William Barnett (#141039638) based on the Descendants of William Barnett, 1679-1762, edited by the Genealogical Forum, Portland, Oregon, 1969. The error begins with the Barnett's Conquest transfer through the family (per TR). Requested original documentation and details since its extensive. Note: This book does NOT list sources for dates (plus most other claimed data), so it's a lead. I found a reference to this book that copied data from this source, but it copied it wrong. Original sources are the key and demeaning sources with errors is unnessary since it's so routine. Requested the posted red notes be removed and no response.

Requested removal of UNCREDITED "West Hanover Township, Pennsylvania 1858" map photo with a new red dot and two NEW names. This is NOT how this is done.
