Earl was the son of Abe and Belle Amos and one of the top bronc riders of his day. He also introduced his best friend, Earl West to his sister Elsie and he became her husband. When the two Earls were about 19 years old they were swimming in Rainbow Lake right next to the cemetery where Earl is now buried. He developed a cramp and when his best friend tried to save him he was pulled under and just barely escaped with his life.
