Clark was the son of Medad WELCH (1793-1872) and Abigail HOSMER (1797-1897), natives of Groton, Vermont.

He was born and raised at Groton, Vermont.

Clark moved to Lowell, Middlesex Co., Massachusetts where he was enumerated in the 1850 US Census.

Clark married Elizabeth Ann "Lizzie" RICHARDSON on 13 January 1857 at Lowell.

Clark and Elizabeth resided at Lowell for most if not all of the remainder of Clark's life. They were enumerated there in the 1860 US Census and the 1865 Massachusetts State Census.
