Elmer was married to Tempie Irene Burchett. He was a farmer in Wayne County until they moved to New Castle, Ind. for work in the factories during WW2. The last farm he worked on was the Rector Farm. He and Irene share a headstone at Choate Cemetery.

Funeral services for Elmer E. Hawkins, 64, 1613 Irvin St., will be held Saturday in the Hickey Funeral Home, Monticello, Ky. Mr. Hawkins died Wednesday night in Henry County Hospital after a week's illness. He was a custodian at the junior high school here.
Surviving are his wife, Irene; six daughters, Mrs. Thelma Clark and Mrs. Linda Commer, both of New Castle; Mrs. Reba Pierce, Arcadia; Mrs. Kathleen Marcum, Daleville; Mrs. Rose Bell of Kentucky, and Miss Geneva Hawkins, at home; three sons, Elmer Jr., Springport; Elza, Indianapolis, and Henry of Ohio; a sister; 25 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
