Roy W. SMITH
Clearfield - Roy Wesley SMITH, 81, of 28 Villa Drive, died Friday in the McKay Hospital of natural causes.
He was born Nov. 18, 1893, in Pullman, Neb., a son of Clarence Knapp and Emma A. McADAMS SMITH.
On Jan. 3, 1922, he was married to Arvilla M. EDDINS in Salt Lake City. He retired from Hill Air Force Base in 1958 after 30 years of civil service as a logistics officer.
Mr. SMITH was a veteran of World War I, serving as a sergeant major in the Army. He had lived for the past 32 years in Clearfield and previously lived 20 years in Grand Junction, Colo.
He attended a military academy in Nebraska, was a member of the Layton post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Surviving are his widow of Clearfield; two daughters, Mrs. Franklin S. (Polly) WOODWARD of Salt Lake City and Mrs. Duane M. (Lois) McINTIRE of Clearfield; nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren; four
sisters, Mrs. Nona BLISS Beckley of West Virginia; Mrs. Arie (Leona) VANDER STOEP, Mrs. Fern ROWENHORST, and Mrs. Clarice FLIKKEMA all of Orange City, Iowa; one half brother and a half sister, John PORTER of Las Vegas, Nev., and Mrs. Corene RYAN of Anaheim, Calif.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Lindquist's Clearfield Mortuary Chapel where friends may call Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday prior to services. Burial in the Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch where military honors will be accorded by the Layton VFW.
