She was born Aug. 2, 1923, in Kenton, Ohio, to James and Luema Welch. She married Lauren Gilbert on May 1, 1942. He died in 1998.
Surviving are her children, Darrell (Paula) Gilbert, Dixon, Laurelynn Gilbert, Aurora, Ill.; grandchildren, Angela (Warren) Cannell and Timothy (Sommer) Gilbert; five great-grandchildren; siblings, James Welch, Florida, Iva Goodwin and Margaret Wood, Muncie, Ind., and Doris Gordon, Chicago.
