Phoebe, her husband, William and her three surviving children, Richard, Catherine and James left London, England on 31 October 1874 on the ship 'Michaelangelo' bound for a new life in New Zealand. The family was joined on the voyage by Phoebe's aunt, Ellen Rothwell's family and her brother James Seddon who later returned to England. The families arrived in Nelson, New Zealand on 22 January 1875. Phoebe's brother, Richard John Seddon had migrated to New Zealand from Lancashire England earlier in 1866.
