Ellen M. Anderson was born Sept. 11, 1915, the daughter of B.K. Barney and Ellevina (Guttormson) Anderson, in Union, N.D. She attended school in Elfros, Sask., and Union, N.D. and Milton, N.D. She graduated from high school in Milton in 1933. She married Gudmundur "Boody" Johannesson on Dec. 8, 1937, in Park River, N.D. They farmed in Pembina County until the early 1950s. They moved to Gardar in 1945. She worked as a cook in the Gardar School. Gudmundur Johannesson died in 1955. She served as the Gardar Postmaster from 1956 to 1982. She also owned Ellen s Confectionery. She retired Aug. 13, 1982. She lived in Gardar until 1995, when she moved to Borg Home in Mountain, N.D.
She is survived by children, Gary (Rosemary), Murrieta, Calif. and Linda (Will) Wehrman, Donnybrook, N.D.; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters: Beatrice Thomasson, Chicago, Illinois; Ethel Stauss, East Grand Forks, Minn.; Alice Ulmer, Bucyrus, Ohio; Joyce Rochester, Aberdeen, Wash.; and Ruth (Gordon) Aldrich, Humptulips, Wash.; and a brother, Elton (Joanne) Anderson, Redding, Calif.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Gudrun Davidson and brothers, Henry and Steve.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, Gardar Pioneer Lutheran Church.
Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Tollefson Funeral Home, Edinburg, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Church cemetery.
