Mother Mary Cecilia Bailly was the second superior general of the Sisters of Providence, elected to the position after the death of the Congregation's foundress, Mother Theodore Guerin.

Began rebuilding of the original Academy in 1860; sent Sisters of Providence to staff military hospitals in Indianapolis and Vincennes during the Civil War (1861-1865).
