JOHN ALLEN PASSES AWAY AT HOME HERE

Had resided in Galena 40 years; Services Today

Funeral services for John Allen, 61 years old, resident of Galena for the past 40 years and a former partner of the White and Allen Wholesale Fruit and Produce company, will be held at 2:30 o’clock this afternoon from the Methodist church with the Rev. R. L. Kuhns, pastor, in charge. Burial will be made in Hill Crest cemetery.

Allen died at 9:30 o’clock Tuesday night at his home, 819 East Fifth street, following a week’s illness from influenza.

Allen was born in Iowa November 14, 1871, and came to Galena to reside in 1892. In 1900, he and Orville T. White formed a partnership, the White and Allen company. White remained here until 1908 when he moved to Joplin and constructed a plant there. Allen continued to operate the plant here until 1919 when he took over the Baxter Springs plant. Then in May, 1929, Allen sold his interest in the company to White. Since that time he had been assisting his son, Franklin Allen of Jackson, Mississippi, in road construction work in Texas.

Young Allen had been visiting here with his father and only left Monday.

The deceased was a member of the Methodist church and of the Modern Woodmen of America organization.

Allen is survived, besides his son, by two other sons, Mitchell Allen and Bartlett Allen of Manhattan, Kansas; his widow, Mrs. Elizabeth Allen; a daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Heinz of Flandreau, South Dakota; and a sister, Miss Lora Allen of Pittsburg.
