Elizabeth A. Heinz
, 85, died May 23, 1990, in the John Knox Village Care Center, 600 N.W. Pryor Road, Lee's Summit, where she lived. She was born in Galena, Kan., and lived in South Dakota, Oklahoma City and Topeka before moving to this area more than 15 years ago. Mrs. Heinz was recreational therapist at the Veterans Administration hospital in Topeka until she retired in 1971. Earlier she taught in South Dakota. She received a bachelor's degree in music and a master's degree in English from Kansas State College, Manhattan. She was the widow of Lewis Heinz. Survivors include two brothers, G. Mitchell Allen, Wichita, and Bartlett V. Allen, Chattanooga, Tenn. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the National Cemetery, Fort Leavenworth. The family suggests contributions to the Wyandotte County unit of the American Cancer Society.

Elizabeth and Lewis married on August 6, 1932, in Manhattan, Riley County, Kansas. The description of their wedding in a local newspaper was extensive:
Allen-Heinz
The marriage of Miss Elizabeth Allen and Mr. Lewis G. Heinz took place Saturday, August 6. at the Methodist church, Reverend B. A. Rogers officiating. The double ring ceremony was used. Virginia and Catharine Poston of Kansas City, Kansas, were bridesmaids, and Miss Dorothy Fae Nation of Pittsburg, a cousin of the bride, acted as ring bearer. Mr. Heinz was attended by his brother, Walter Heinz of St. Louis, Mo., as best man and Mason Hewitt of Kansas City, Mo., as groomsman.

Preceding the ceremony, Mrs. Edwin Sayre played "To a Wild Rose" by MacDowell and Mr. Sayre sang Schubert's "Serenade" and "Homing" by Del Riego with Mrs. Sayre accompanying at the organ. As the processional Mrs. Sayre played the bridal march from "Lohengrin" by Wagner and as a recessional Mendelssohn's Wedding March was played, and during the ceremony she played MacDowell's "At an Old Trysting Place."

The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, wore a floor length dress of white lace and net and a short veil. Her bouquet was of lilies-of-the-valley. She carried a point lace handkerchief that her mother had carried at her wedding. The bridesmaids wore floor length dresses of organdy in pastel shades and carried arm bouquets of gladiola. The ring bearer wore a long dress of ruffled white organdy. Ferns and large baskets of flowers formed the background for the ceremony.

Mrs. Heinz is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John M. Allen of 413 N. Tenth, formerly of Galena. She was a graduate of Manhattan high school with the class of 1924 and received her bachelor of music degree from K. S. C. in 1928. While in college she was a member of Kappa Phi, the Euro-delphian national literary society and other organizations. Since graduation she has taken advanced work at Columbia university and the University of Southern California.

Mr. Heinz is the son of Bertha Heinz, of Rosston, Okla. He is a graduate of the Beaver, Okla., high school and attended Oklahoma A. and M. college and the University of Colorado. He is a World war veteran.

Following the ceremony, a reception was given at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Allen for close family and relatives of Mr. and Mrs. Heinz. Mr. and Mrs. Heinz will make their wedding trip by automobile to the north east. They will visit the Great Lakes, Niagara Falls and Toronto, Canada. After September 1, they will be at home In Flandreau. S. D., where Mr. Heinz is instructor of mechanical drafting and Mrs. Heinz Is director of music at the United, States Indian school.

Out of town guests here for the wedding in addition to the wedding party were Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Nation, Mr. and Mrs. M. A. Nation, Miss Lora Alien, Pittsburg; Mr. G. M. Allen, Adel, Iowa, Mr. J. F. Allen, Grand Saline, Texas; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Miller and daughters Cornelia Ann and Patricia, Mrs. Francis Wardin and daughter Mary, Topeka; and Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Pickett, daughter Sarah Nell, sons Frank jr. and John, Mr. and Mrs. O. T. White. Joplin, Mo.; Miss Ruth Turner, Emporia, Kan.; Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Hughes, Kansas City, Kan.; Virginia Board, Galena; Mrs. Horace Miller, Brooklyn, N. Y.; and Arlee Ebert, Kansas City. Kan.

The couple had two children, Sarah "Sally" Heinz, who remained single, 1934-1976, and their son, John Nicholas Heinz, who died young, 1936-1946.
