Mary “Teresa” Burkett, 93, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 12, 2021, at Twilight Gardens Nursing Home, where she resided, in Norwalk, OH. Her daughter and granddaughter were by her side.

Mary was born on July 26, 1927 in Elyria, OH to the late Paul and Ester Adam. She was a 1945 graduate of Clearview High School in Lorain, OH. Shortly after, she worked as a waitress in the cafeteria of US Steel in Lorain, where she met her future husband, Dean Burkett. He asked Mary out on a dare from his buddies, and the bet paid off tenfold, as the two of them built a life & legacy from that day forward, staying together until Dean was called home in 1995.

Mr. and Mrs. Burkett owned & operated Burkett’s Grocery in Florence, OH in the late 1960’s, for over a decade. They were loved, and to this day remembered well, by the neighborhood kids because they would always give them pretzel rods and penny candy when they visited the store.

In addition to her dedication to and love of her family, infamous cooking, and generous spirit, Mary will forever be remembered for her boundless energy and her love of garage sales!

Mary is survived by her three children; six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; a sister; and countless nieces, nephews, and loved ones.

In addition to her loving husband and parents, Mary is preceded in death by 5 of her 6 siblings, Abel Adam, Joe Adam, Martha Zimmerman, Faith Helmling, and David Adam.

Friends may call on Sunday, January 17, 2021 from 2:00pm-5:00pm at the Morman Funeral Home, 16 Cooper Street, Wakeman. Services will be held on Monday, January 18 at 11:00am at Morman Funeral Home with burial following at Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst.
