Donald V. Smith, 92, of Washington passed away at 7:40 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, 2007, at ManorCare Nursing Home at Riverview in East Peoria.

Don was born Oct. 12, 1915, in Marietta, Ill., to Roy and Garnet Harris Smith. He married Florence "Tudy" Miller in Galesburg on June 25, 1938. She passed away Oct. 5, 1991, in Peoria.

Survivors include one son, Ronald (Marsha) Smith of Stewartsville, N.J.; two daughters, Joyce Smith of Peoria and Pat Smith of Gallatin, Tenn.; three brothers, Eugene (Doris) Smith of Bushnell, Bobby Smith of Bartonville and Leo Smith of Washington, D.C.; two grandchildren, Dustin Magemeneas and Adam Smith; and five great-grandchildren, Mason, Gloria Lynne and Lydia Magemeneas and Connor and Emma Smith.

Don also was preceded in death by one brother, Eldon; and three sisters, Bette, Frances and Opel.

He had worked for more than 45 years for Hiram Walker in Peoria prior to his retirement in April 1981, when he was superintendent of maintenance.

Don had been a member of Crossroads United Methodist Church, where he had served in numerous positions, including scout leader, and was also a member of Taylor Lodge 98, AF&AM, in Washington and also Kennel Lakes Sportsman's Club of Morton.

A man who truly enjoyed life, Don had many activities, including traveling with friends, woodworking, gardening, fishing and bowling, as well as the ever faithful Chicago Cubs fan.

Burial will be in Hillcrest Memory Gardens, south of Washington.
