Leonie was the last of six children born to Franciscus DeVrieze and Francisca D'Hont. She married Joannes Fiems on 4 October 1889 and resided in Oostkamp for the remainder of her life. She and Joannes had seven children; Camiel Alois, Achiel Josephus, Romanus Josephus, Henri Camiel, Cyriel, Prudent Clement, and their lone daughter Alida Melanie. Both Camiel and Archiel immigrated to the United States while Romanus and Henri both died in military service during World War I. Cyriel, Prudent, and Alida, all of whom married and raised families, remained in Belgium.
