Kenneth A. "Ken" Baroun

Allentown, PA - Kenneth "Ken" A. Baroun, 81, died March 10, 2021, in his home in Lower Macungie Township, Allentown, PA. after a courageous yearlong fight with A.L.S. Ken was born October 5, 1939 in Manitowoc County, WI., the son of Joseph E. and Adeline (Wenzlaff) Baroun.

Ken was a 1957 graduate of Reedsville High School. He graduated from Manitowoc County Teachers College, earned his BS-Education from Lakeland College, MS-Administration/Supervision from UW-Milwaukee, and Superintendents Certification from Marquette University. His first year of teaching was in a grades 1-8 one-room school in Collins, WI with Valders Public School. During his 21-years at Valders he taught elementary and middle school, and then became an elementary and middle school principal. Ken joined the Mishicot Public School District as an elementary principal and later became their district administrator. Several years later he joined the Two Rivers School system & served as an elementary principal and after retirement, as a co-principal of the high school. Ken believed in every student and hoped he made an impact on their lives. Ken was a teacher, a leader, an administrator, a co-worker. Ken was the first male to take a class at Silver Lake College and later taught leadership classes at the college. He was dedicated to his profession and never stopped learning.

On July 1, 1961, Ken married his high school sweetheart Shirley A. Shavlik at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Manitowoc, WI. They have one son, Scott.

They moved to Allentown, PA in 2000 and spent retirement with family and traveling. Ken spent one year as principal of The Lutheran Academy, Northampton, PA. He enjoyed woodworking and reading.

Ken was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church, Macungie, PA, and former member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Manitowoc, WI. He was a former Lions Club member, served as a Red Cross board member, served on church councils and was a Sunday School teacher.

Ken is survived by his wife, Shirley A. Baroun, son and daughter-in-law: Scott K. and Jennifer S. Baroun, Allentown, PA., 2 grandchildren: Ben S. Baroun and Grace A. Baroun, Allentown, PA, brother and sister-in-law: Marvin and Sue Baroun, New Auburn, WI, brothers/sisters-in-law: Dick(Cathy) Shavlik, Whitelaw, WI, Bob(Deb) Shavlik, Green Bay, WI, Jack(Chris) Shavlik, Oconto, WI, Jean(Steve) Zirbel, Reedsville, WI, and Diane (Larry) Schleis, Green Bay WI., nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters: Bernice Denor & Germaine Luedtke, and mother and father in-law Victor & Marcella Shavlik.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 29, in Concordia Lutheran Church, Macungie, PA. A memorial will be established in memory of Ken or memorials can be made to a charity of your choice. Pearson Funeral Home, Bethlehem, PA is assisting the family (pearsonfh.com).
