Osborne, Helen Genevieve
died January 19, 2013 at the age of 99 years 8 months and 9 days. She, who was the 4th oldest child of Polish immigrants Marcin Chuchro and Wiktoria Wilke, was born 9 May 1913 in Mineville, New York. On entry into Ellis Island her parents' names were changed by immigration officials to Martin Huchro and Victoria Wilke.

As a teenager Helen studied at Bellevue Hospital in New York City and the result, of which, received registered nurse certification from state of New York. Some years later WW II broke out and Helen, being patriotic, joined Army Nurse Corps. While stationed at Ft. Jackson, SC., she met another lieutenant Robert J. C. Osborne, of Ft. Bragg, SC, who was injured in a parachute jump. The two were married in the State of South Carolina, County of Lexington, 10 August, 1942.

As the result of Robert becoming a career army officer, Helen had a long stint as an army wife. It was a rich, cultural life, involving three, three year tours in Europe. The Colonel died in Mesa, October 4, 1975, so Mrs. Osborne was for many years a widow. On her own she traveled to China, Russia, the Holy Land, Galapagos Islands, and Inca lands. When she was about the age of 94 the cruel disease of Alzheimer manifested. The progression of this disease resulted in total memory loss.

Surviving Mrs. Osborne are her two sons, George Osborne of Pismo Beach, CA. and Robert Osborne of Sun City West, AZ; her siblings Frank, of Keene Valley, NY; Jena Haley of Port Henry, NY; Walter of Westport, NY; Stanley, of Glen Falls, NY.

Any contributions send to the Disabled Veterans of America. The service and burial is to take place 1/22, 10 AM, at the Green Acres Cemetery in Scottsdale.
