Samuel Edward Bragg

Samuel Edward Bragg, 85, of 619 Bragg Road, Shady Spring, died Friday, Oct. 19, 2007, following a long illness.

Born Jan. 12, 1922, in Pear, W.Va., he was the son of the late Samuel Adam Bragg and Bertie L. Goodson Meadows.

He was a disabled coal miner and a veteran of World War II. He was also a member of the Abraham Community Baptist Church.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul, Beecher, and Leonard "Juney" Bragg; two sisters, Marie Arthur and an infant sister; a great-granddaughter, Dannie Lynn Plumley; and a great-great-granddaughter, Heaven Mae Plumley.

Survivors include his loving wife, Lona Mae Plumley Bragg of Shady Spring; four sons, Edward Loren Bragg and wife Juanita of Sheffield Lake, Ohio, Terry Lee Bragg and wife Tina of Paint Street, Beckley, Woodrow Don Bragg and wife Tammy of Plumley Mountain, Abraham, and Russell Wayne Bragg at home; 12 daughters, Brinda L. Bennett of Bob Plumley Road, Abraham, Joann Plumley and husband Ernie of Plumley Mountain, Linda Marie Surratt and husband Gary of Daniels, Rosie L. Miller and husband Ben of Sand Branch Road, Lillian K. Dunbar and husband Lloyd of Maple Fork Road, Lilly Justice and husband Kenny of Jamestown, Tenn., Emma Hinkle and husband Fred of Knoxville, Tenn., Rebecca S. Bragg and husband Billy of Rochester, N.Y., Connie J. Bragg and husband Danny of Bragg, Juanita Bragg and husband Wayne of Bragg, Janet Johnson of Maple Fork Road, and Diana Newman and husband Mike of Crab Orchard; two brothers, Charles Bragg of Quinwood and Jimmy Bragg of Bragg; 18 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many, many friends and neighbors.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2007, at the Abraham Community Baptist Church at Bragg, with Rev. Charles Daniels Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at the Goodson Cemetery #1 in Bragg.

Visitation will be from noon until 2 p.m. at the church.

Pallbearers will be William Bragg, Matthew Bragg, Jessie Bragg, Woodrow Don Bragg, Dennis Plumley, Robert D. Plumley, Lloyd Dunbar, and Kenny Justice.
