Betty was born October 17, 1936 in Boone County, West Virginia. She moved to Burlington in 1963, where she ran the Little Cottage Motel for many years. Betty had two children. She married in 1980 and they were happily married 41 years.
Betty was quite athletic and played softball and was an accomplished bowler. She won the Coors Cup Challenge in Goodland and traveled to many national tournaments. At one time, she bowled on three leagues a week. It was a bone of contention with Dale that she had bowled several 600 series and he had none.
Everyone loved Betty's cooking and there were always fresh cookies for guest to enjoy. When her illness progressed, she made sure to have some available even though it was a struggle.
Betty loved working outdoors and had a yard which was the envy of many. While she could, she mowed the lawn with a push mower because she liked the way it looked. There was also a beautiful pond with fish she fed every day. She was especially proud of winning Yard of the Month more than once.
Betty had an unusual way with animals, including at one time raising geese and goslings, one of which she tamed and kept in the house.
Betty was much loved by her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She spent lots of time with them cooking and doing other activities.
She was preceded in death by son Teddy, parents Ardith and Myrtle Ball, sister Nancy Ball and mother-in-law Flo Franklin.
An interesting side note about Betty – after doing some research, it was discovered that Betty was a descendent of "Devil" Anse Hatfield of the Hatfield and McCoy feud.
Betty will be sadly missed by many. Graveside services were held at Fairview Cemetery (Burlington, Colorado) on Monday, May 17, 2021 at 3:00pm.
