Mr. Kenneth Smith Houck, 86, of 104 N. Second St., Woodsboro, died Wednesday, September 6, 2006, at College View Center, Frederick, after a brief illness. Born April 23, 1920, in Frederick County, he was the son of the late Ira G. and Beulah Smith Houck. He was the husband of G. Lorraine Houck, his wife of 56 years.

Mr. Houck formerly worked at Sealtest Dairy, Chestnut Farms Dairy and Ideal Farms Dairy for 30 years and was then employed with the Frederick County Board of Education as a custodian at Woodsboro Elementary School for 15 years prior to his retirement in 1989. He was a life member of the Thurmont Sportsmen's Club, was the first president of the Maryland State Sportsmen's Association and was a member of the Woodsboro Volunteer Fire Company. He won the Maryland State Doubles Trapshooting Championship six times and in 1992 was inducted into the Alvin G. Quinn Memorial Sports Hall of Fame through the Frederick County YMCA for his excellence in trapshooting.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Kenneth George Houck and wife Lisa of Frederick; a daughter, Jane H. Stitely and husband John of New Midway; five grandchildren, Patricia Jane Black and husband Michael Jr., Lori Lynn Chemilli and husband Nicholas, Robert Paul Houck and wife Mandy, Rebecca Lorraine Houck and John Jeremy Stitely; three great- grandchildren, Kristen M. Black, Austin M. Black and Cody Miller; a sister, Phyllis Houck Smith of Walkersville; a brother, Marvin "Buck" Houck of Walkersville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Harold H. Houck.
