NORTH TAZEWELL, Va. — Betty Lou Coon, 71, of 179 King St., North Tazewell, died Thursday, June 14, 2007 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center. She was born July 5, 1935 in Horsepen, Va., and was a daughter of the late Garland E. Aker and Hattie Freeman Aker.
She was retired from GTE after 37 years of service, was a member of the Calvary Baptist Chapel, Witten Mill of Tazewell, Va., was a member of the choir, member and leader of Awan Teen and was a director of the Senior Ministry.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Fish.
She is survived by her husband, John McCray Coon Jr.; son, Danny Angles of Princeton; stepson, Steven Coon of The Plains, Ohio; stepdaughters, Lisa Rose of North Tazewell and Pam Pennington; brother, Earl Aker and wife Beverly of Elizabethtown, Ky.; sister, Pauline Edmondton of Florida; five granddaughters, two grandsons, two great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 17, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at the Calvary Baptist Chapel at Wittens Mill with Pastor Chuck Trent officiating. Burial will follow in the Grandview Memory Gardens, Bluefield, Va.
Pallbearers will be Stephen Trent, Michael Trent, Bill McConnell, Delmar Buchanan, Lawrence Smith and Lonnie Quesenberry.
Friends may call today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Dudley Memorial Mortuary in Bluefield, Va.
