She was 101 years young. Her last words were" I am ready to go home".
Helen was born on the Dawson Family Farm in Sissonville on December 22, 1919 to the late Daniel Summers Dawson and Mary Lillie Aultz Dawson. Helen was the youngest 10 children.
Helen graduated from Sissonville High School. She was a member of Marshall University class of 1943 where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree. Helen received a Master of Arts degree from West Virginia University in 1949. She taught school in Kanawha County for many years.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Craig, whom she married on September 11, 1949; and her nine brothers and sisters, including Daniel Boone Dawson, former mayor of Charleston.
Helen is survived by her loving sons, Robert Craig (Maureen) of Oviedo, FL and Jeffery Albert of Sheridan WY; grandchildren, Daniel Craig of Oviedo, FL and Kelly Elizabeth of Atlanta GA. She is also survived by her great-granddaughter, Emory Grace Sanders of Oviedo, FL; along with many loving nieces and nephews.
A service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 23 at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar. Burial will follow in Grandview Memorial Park, Dunbar.
Friends may visit from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, October 22 at Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
