Alice Brooke was the daughter of Francis C. Brooke (1810-1886) and his wife Juliana Allix (1820-1879).
She was twice married. On May 28, 1857 Alice married then Lieutenant - Colonel Edward William Derrington Bell, son of Lieutenant-General Edward Wells Bells and his wife Marianne Chapman. This marriage ended in divorce in 1869, when Alice was cited for adultery with Captain Tyesen Holroyd. The petition for divorce was filed on May 27, 1867, and the decree absolute was given in 1869.
Alice and Edward had two children:
1. Florence Bell, born 1860 - died 1860
2. Col. Edward Bell, born 1866 - died 1937
Alice remarried in 1873 at Croydon, England to the widowed Dr. George Fowler Bodington.
Alice and George had 4 children:
3. Helena Brooke Bodington, born October 17, 1874 - 1951
4. Winnifred Brooke Bodington, born July 29, 1877 - 1949
5. Ethelbert Brooke Bodington, born 1878 - died 1878
6. Maurice Brooke Bodington, 1884 - 1969
