Elaine Wendling, age 83, a lifelong resident of Collins, died on Sunday evening, Dec. 23, 2007, at Manitowoc Health Care Center, with her family at her side. She had been a resident at the Care Center.

She was the former Elaine M. Rabe, born on March 20, 1924, in the town of Schleswig, daughter of the late Otto and Emma (Laurence) Rabe. Elaine attended Elder Grove Grade School and was a 1942 graduate of Kiel High School. On April 3, 1943, she married Glenroy Wendling in Waycross, Ga. Glenroy preceded her in death on Jan. 14, 1990. Elaine had previously worked at the former Hanson Glove Factory, Kiel, Tecumseh Products, New Holstein, and retired in 1985 from her secretary and accounting position at Union Brass & Aluminum Foundry, Collins, which she owned with her husband, Glenroy. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Clarks Mills, where she was a member of the choir and the Marion Council, including holding an office in the Council. She was a former member of St. Mary's, Reedsville, where she belonged to the Christian Women's Society and the choir. Elaine enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially attending her grandkids' events. She also enjoyed listening to students read at St. Mary's, playing cards, traveling, needlepoint, sewing, cross stitch, crocheting and was an avid reader.

Survivors include her children: Teresa (Richard) Pederson, Valders, Charles (Barbara) Wendling, Collins, Mary (Daniel) Benter, Collins, Joan (Lesley) Zutz, Collins, Elaine (Bryan) Imhoff, Manitowoc, James (Patsy) Wendling, Brillion, eighteen grandchildren, Bradley & Vincent Pederson, Angela Baeten, Troy, Craig & Brett Wendling, Tracy, Travis & Tabitha Benter, Heather Zutz, Nicole Behnke, Michael Paul & Kimberly Zutz, Cassandra & Brittany Christel, Grant Imhoff and Jacob & Dylan Wendling. She is further survived by fifteen great grandchildren, other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by two grandchildren: Tara Benter and Melissa Pederson-Zipperer; one sister: Lorena Rabe; and six brothers: Walter, Harvey, Truman, Clarence, Ervin and Ray Rabe.

The funeral Mass for Elaine will be celebrated on Monday, Dec. 31, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Clarks Mills, with the Rev. David Zimmerman officiating. Entombment will take place in Knollwood Mausoleum, Manitowoc.

Friends may call at the Meiselwitz-Vollstedt Funeral Home, 815 6th St., Kiel, on Sunday, Dec. 30, 2007, from 3 until 8 p.m. and at the church on Monday, Dec. 31, 2007, from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
